JOE Men of the Year Awards 2015: International Man of the Year

Conor Heneghan

Our favourite JOEs from around the globe.

Every other category in the JOE Men of the Year awards is a sign of our admiration for the exploits of the men of Ireland, but we thought we’d set one category aside to spread the love around to fellas from further afield as well.

Men we admire for a variety of different reasons. Men to whom we’ve paid tribute often in the recent past. Men whose company we’d enjoy over a pint.

Vote for the JOE International Man of the Year at the bottom of the page and vote on all the JOE Men of the Year categories here.

Paul Rudd

paulrudd

Easily one of our favourite interviewees of 2015, it’s damn near impossible not to like Paul Rudd.

Ant-Man was the biggest project for the Ruddster (yeah, we went there) in 2015, but he even managed a cameo in Moone Boy and his Marvel commitments alone will keep him busy well into 2018.

Tremendously funny, incredibly down to earth and star of some of our favourite comedies of recent times, he’s a handsome divil and he smells great too.

Must be the Sex Panther.

Stephen Fry

stepfry

The star of one of the biggest stories on JOE in the last year, Fry’s interview with Gay Byrne about religion and God really is a must-watch.

That aside, he was a constant and valued supporter of the Yes side in the lead-up to the Marriage Referendum and was his usual hilarious self on screen on the wonderful QI.

Ed Sheeran

sheeraned

Has practically been adopted by Ireland such is his popularity in the country; not many can sell-out Croke Park on a series of nights but Ed did it comfortably and without any of the nonsense we had to put up with from Garth Brooks either.

He also sold out Wembley, won best male pop/rock artist at the American Music Awards and was nominated for five BRIT Awards.

Consistently proves himself to be sound as a pound with classy gestures towards his legions of fans and he has a soft spot for this place dating back to the days he used to busk on Galway’s Shop Street.

Will Ferrell

If there was a Hall of Fame award then Ferrell would probably be the first inductee; we were smitten with Will long before he admired the facial hair of a star-struck member of the JOE editorial team not so long ago.

He got his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the past year, starred in Get Hard and along with his co-star in that movie, Kevin Hart, offered Irish people advice for surviving St. Patrick’s Day, including avoiding people from Meath.

And you know he’s coming to Dublin very soon, right?

Dave Grohl

Broke his leg at a gig in Sweden but in the true spirit of the phrase ‘the show must go on’, he continued to perform even while being treated by medics and played on a giant throne for the rest of the tour while his leg was in a cast.

He was already a legend anyway but if that’s not enough to warrant a nomination for International Man of the Year then we don’t know what is.
