JOE’s Classic Song of the Day: Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell – Ain’t No Mountain High Enough

Only the best...

Only the best…

We’re only into the early stages of a new year and JOE will always strive to bring you some of the best new music as it’s released but that doesn’t mean we won’t take the time to reflect on some absolute classics from years passed.

Every day we’re aiming to bring you some of our favourite classic tunes from the worlds of rock, pop, soul, hip-hop, dance and anything else that grabs us.

We’ve got plenty in store from the 60’s all the way up to the modern era so keep an eye out for what’s coming next.

We’ve decided to start with an absolute belter to kick things off.

Artist, album and year: Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, United, 1967

Why is it a classic? : Because it’s one of the finest and most upbeat duets that has ever been recorded and we can all do with a little optimism on this sad ‘back to work’ week.

Did you know? : Terrell recorded her vocals alone with the producers who later added Gaye’s vocals in a separate take. The song was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in ’99.

The lyrical hook: “Don’t you know that there ain’t no mountain high enough, ain’t no valley low enough, ain’t no river wide enough to keep me from getting to you”.
