JOE’s Classic Song of the Day : The Prodigy – No Good (Start the Dance)

A dance track that is as good as it gets

Eric Lalor

A dance track that is as good as it gets…

Continuing our look at some of the greatest tunes of all time from all genres, this tune from Essex dance legends The Prodigy is quite simply one of the best dance tracks ever made.

Artist, album and year: Prodigy, Music for the Jilted Generation, 1994.

Why is it a classic? It’s another one of those tunes that transcends musical tastes and genres. No matter what kind of music you were into, it was impossible to ignore this classic. An absolute stomper of a tune, it’s a song that picks you up, shakes you all about and then shakes you a bit more.

A relentless wall of rhythmic noise, its snarling bass-lines and deliciously melodic if somewhat hypnotic chorus make this an instant floor filler in any club. Using a sample from the 1987 Kelly Charles hit “You’re no good for me” this is a song which will make you wish you were out on a night out with your mates in a club.

Taken from their classic album, Music for the Jilted Generation, this is a timeless gem and still sounds as good and as fresh today as it did when it was released.

Did You Know? In 2012, the music video for this song became the last music video to be played on the music channel NME TV directly before its closure.

The lyrical hook: “You’re no good for me, I don’t need nobody, don’t need no-one that’s no good for me”.
