JOE’s Essential Holiday Tunes: The Eagles – Hotel California

Yes it’s predictable as it’s one of the most well-known songs of all time, but you won’t hear too many complaints if you throw this one while you’re chilling on the beach.

JOE

Yes it’s predictable as it’s one of the most well-known songs of all time, but you won’t hear too many complaints if you throw this one while you’re chilling on the beach.

The Eagles have been responsible for a number of classic summer tunes – Take it Easy is the perfect accompaniment for a long drive on a summer’s day – but while it is a song for all seasons, the best time to listen to the band’s best known hit is when the sun’s the sky and the heat is on (the name of a song released by band member Glenn Frey during his solo career).

Much like a number of famous songs from that era – Stairway to Heaven being one – a number of fans and critics believe that the lyrics of the song have any number of different interpretations.

In a recent (and quite brilliant) documentary about the band, however, lead singer Don Henley revealed that it is something that will never be revealed, although the general consensus is that it is simply about living the high life in Los Angeles, which the bad were quite adept at doing at the time.

Anyway forget about that for now and just appreciate the brilliance of the song, particularly the harmonious guitar solos by Joe Walsh and Don Felder towards the finish, preferably while lying on the beach… with some pink champagne on ice of course.

These top holiday tunes will definitely put you in the mood for a little break away in the sun, so head on over to the Thomas Cook website for some great deals on a variety of destinations to book.
