With Father’s Day looming large on the horizon, we decided to look at some Dad themed tunes for the day that’s in it.

Father Figure – George Michael

This timeless 1987 hit from his hugely successful Faith album is a classic pop song full of melody and cheese and has a video featuring George as a very dodgy stalkerish cigarette smoking taxi-driver.

Papa Was A Rolling Stone – The Temptations

This classic Mowtown hit was a Grammy award winning song for R&B kingpins The Temptations back in 1973. It’s a funk layered gem delivered with panache by a band famed as much for their flashy suits as their beautiful harmonies. Check out these bad boy pink suits the lads are wearing in this performance.

Daddy Cool – Boney M

Boney M were disco royalty back in the 70s. This was their first big hit and announced them to the world as serious big hitters on the sparkly flared scene of the 70s. The male singer in Boney M was some character. In this performance he manages to infuse the spirit of Marouane Fellaini’s hair with the chest of Ryan Giggs. It’s a tune with so much groove that it should come with a warning. Everybody to the dancefloor this instant!

Bridge Over Troubled Water – Simon and Garfunkel

Quite simply one of the best songs ever written. This Simon and Garfunkel song builds from a simple piano intro to an epic, symphony-backed crescendo, as Art Garfunkel pledges to be by his son’s side through absolutely anything. This is gold.

Just The Two Of Us – Will Smith

Sampling the original song by Bill Withers of the same name, Will Smith raps about his love for his son and how he has changed his life and priorities. The song was later parodied by Dr Evil in the Austin Powers film, The Spy Who Shagged Me.
