Ireland has become a bit of a mecca for surfers in recent years with Bundoran, Sligo, Lahinch and Kerry all proving popular with boarders. When JOE goes to the west coast and see the Atlantic Ocean crashing against our shores, we shiver but it's a hell of a place to catch some waves.
The West Coast is very well known but our hidden gem for surfing is Waterford. The Copper Coast and Bunmahon in particular is a great spot when you get the right conditions. There's a great surf school there too so it's one for experienced heads and beginners.
Mountain Biking is something that we here at JOE would love to try, it just looks like pure adrenaline-pumping fun. The terrain here in Ireland helps with setting up a good trail and there's a brilliant one in Ballyhoura on the Cork/Limerick border. All the details are here and make sure that helmet is tightly secured.
When we think of white water rafting our minds automatically jump to New Zealand or somewhere abroad, but you can do it right here in Ireland. JOE is not a water baby but we've heard if you like the water, you'll love it. If you're up for it, there's a great place in Sligo so get your wetsuit on and get splashing.
People are so health conscious nowadays so why not mix exercise with beautiful scenery by going on a hiking trip. The good thing about hiking is that it's pretty much for everyone so get your boots on and get out there. The gem we've chosen is Tipperary, there's plenty of route for all levels, here's a quick look at your options.
For the more adventurous person out there, there's plenty of top class rock climbing locations around the country. It's very challenging but also very rewarding when you reach the summit (and get back down). The hidden gem we've found is in Bray Head, all the information is here.
