JOE’s Hidden Treasures: Dublin

Pursue the possibilities of this great city

JOE

We’ve already covered London’s hidden treasures, but now it’s time to bring this feature a little closer to home and see what Dublin has to offer.

Dublin has so much more to offer than the obvious, so Jameson and JOE have put together a list of some of the best hidden treasures in our capital.

Here are five of our favourites

Hear the quirky bird chirp in Rathmines

Place: Blackbird (pub)

The minute you walk through the doors you’ll realise that Blackbird is a little different from most other pubs. Star Wars memorabelia hanging from the roof, sweets from your childhood on the tables and a Mortal Kombat arcade machine in the corner. If you want something different with your pint, then this place could be for you.

Quick! Get your donuts on Aungier Street

Place: Aungier Danger (café)

This café is open a couple of weeks and it’s already caught our attention. They make 3 batch of donuts every day and when they sell them all, they close… which means they get to close early, because these donuts are f-ing great!

#SOLDOUT for today guys! Back tomorrow at 7:30am ? Thank you!! #AungierDanger

Indulge your inner nerd in Stephen’s Green

Place: Hidden Treasure Comics (Store)

Hidden Treasures does exactly what it says on the tin, supplies you with a haven of rare gems to indulge your inner nerd. It’s also located smack bang in the middle of the city. Ideal.

Watch a blockbuster or an indie classic

Place: The Screen IMC (Cinema)

With three screens and radiators like you’d find in your nan’s front room within the theatres, the screen cinema is probably the most homely place you can watch a new release in Dublin. If you’re looking for a place a little more chilled than your local omniplex, this little gem on Townsend Street might be the place for you. It’s closing down soon, so go now while you still can.

Enjoying tranquility in the city centre

Place: The Iveagh Gardens

Stephen’s Green and Merrion Square are just around the corner, but this is an article about hidden treasures, not well-known ones. You may have been there for a gig but The Iveagh Gardens are completely different when there’s nothing on – just a really peaceful haven in the centre of the city.
