JOE’s Style Icon – ripped R.I.P.D. star Ryan Reynolds

Well it was never going to be Jeff Bridges now was it?

JOE

To mark the release of supernatural comedy R.I.P.D. this week, JOE looks at the fashion expertise of the super stylish star of the film.

No silly billy, not Jeff Bridges. We are, of course, talking about Ryan Reynolds.

Back in 2004, when Ryan Reynolds was training for his first major action role in Blade: Trinity, few people thought the skinny star of Van Wilder could pull off such an overtly action role. Then he bulked up incredibly while also getting his body fat down to 3.8%.

To put that in perspective, most participants in bodybuilding competitions rarely get below 4.5%. So as you’d expect, clothes have a habit of looking extremely well on him.

As we’ve mentioned before, it really does come down to build; strong shoulders and a toned torso make the difference with fitted suits and clothing in general. JOE has met Mr. Reynolds before and was surprised by how compact he looked; he’s not a tank who looks like he’s about to take part in a heavyweight UFC event but rather  a lean, if muscular guy who doesn’t advertise the fact that he’s in such good shape – meaning he’s not wear a white vest and tracksuit bottoms (we’re looking at you Vin Diesel).
With a lot of actors, models and men in the public eye what their style really comes down to is how they hold themselves; but with Reynolds it’s really more about the attitude. This guy has made a check-shirt/hoodie combo look fantastic (Safe House) and even wore the hell out of a backwards baseball cap (Van Wilder); but it’s his easygoing, comedic sensibilities that keep him ahead of other A-list stars.
A recent campaign modeling for Hugo Boss came as little surprise; Reynolds is a movie star and Style Icon because women fancy him and men want to be like him, but also maybe have a beer with him. That’s a recipe for success if ever there was one

Since that early role, the charming, funny actor has gone on to star in a number of action roles (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Green Lantern) due in no small part to the fact that he looks extremely well on screen.

It really does come down to build; strong shoulders and a toned torso make the difference with fitted suits and clothing in general. JOE has met Mr. Reynolds before (lucky him) and was surprised by how compact he looked.

That’s right Vin Diesel, we’re talking to you.

I’m sure Austin Powers won’t mind if we borrow his brilliant description for Reynolds women want him and men want to be him.

A recipe for success if ever there was one and it’s a recipe that’s clearly working. Check out Reynolds’ better half, the lovely Blake Lively who’s clearly a fan of her spouse’s style sense:
