JOE’s wishlist: Slick sandwiches, Michel Roux Jnr and a brilliant World Cup preview in Dublin

JOE

Another week, another load of stuff we want to eat or go see…

From a snazzy lunch alternative, to the visit of a cooking legend to a class looking World Cup event in Dublin, we’ve a bulging wishlist this week.

Centra’s Gourmet Sandwiches

As any one who isn’t organised enough to make their lunch every day knows, the daily sandwich run is more of a chore than a treat these days with all the deli options failing to tingle our jaded palats.

But help is now at hand, thanks to Centra, who have launched a gourmet range just in time for lounging in the park over lunch. They have put five new cold and five new hot sambos on the menu and they all look very tasty indeed. They have a Chicken, Brie & Roast Pepper Diamond Roll, a Chorizo Mozzarella Ciabatta, a Chilli & Lime Chicken Wrap, a Roast Pepper, Mozzarella & Pesto Wrap and a Roast Beef Ciabatta, with not a sign of the dreaded coleslaw anywhere.

But it is the hot ones that really have us excited, especially the pulled pork bap (above), an instant favourite in this office. With a Chicken Fajita Wrap, a Sweet Chilli Chicken Ciabatta, an Italian Style Meatball Sub and a Southern Fried Chicken Ciabatta also available, that should keep us well fed all through the hopefully long summer.

Michel Roux Jnr headed to Dublin

As part of Taste of Dublin 2014, the brilliant Michel Roux Jnr will be in town. The former Masterchef judge and current two Michelin-starred chef will be hosting live cooking demonstrations and Q&A sessions across the first two days of the Taste of Dublin festival; Thursday, 12th and Friday, 13th June.

What he doesn’t know about cooking isn’t worth knowing so make sure you get along to see him. You can buy tickets for the Iveagh Garden event here.

World Cup Preview at The Sugar Club

We’ve already got a bad case of World Cup fever and the only way to cure it is to immerse ourselves in even more tournament build up. So we have prescribed ourselves a seat at what should be a cracking night in Dublin’s Sugar Club on June 2.

Hosted by Eoin McDevitt of Second Captains fame, the panel will consist of Argentina and Spurs legend Ossie Ardiles and Brazilian journalist Fernando Duarte, who you will know well if you listen to the Guardian’s Football Weekly pod.

Duarte has a new book out on six Brazil matches that stunned the country, called Shocking Brazil but as well as speaking about that he will also have lots of views on the rest of the tournament and what we can expect from the hosts.

Ardiles won the World Cup in 1978 and the night will end with a screening of the official 1978 World Cup film. This Con Artist and le Cool event sounds amazing to us, and you can get more info on the night here.
