We never doubted you, Joey Chestnut.
The one and only Joey Chestnut was crowned as the winner of Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Competition for a tenth time on 4 July having munched down 72 hot dogs in ten minutes.
That’s right, 72 hot dogs in 10 minutes. As Captain McAllister from The Simpsons might say: ‘Tis no man, ‘tis a remorseless eating machine.

Chestnut broke his own and the event record to win the event for a tenth time in front of thousands of spectators on New York’s Coney Island, an achievement made all the sweeter by the fact that he wiped the floor with the winner of the 2015 event, his arch rival Matt “The Megatoad” Stonie, who could only manage a relatively pitiful 48 hot dogs in the allotted 10 minutes.
The women’s competition was won by Miki Sudo, who ate 41 hot dogs in 10 minutes.
According to the Guardian, competitors are allowed to dip the hot dogs and the hot dog buns in liquid to help ease them down their throats; the video evidence, however, would suggest that there’s very little easing from any of the competitors involved.
The commentary on this is quite something.

“There’s no secret, I love to eat, and I love doing it, I love to win, so I had to figure out my body and push it to the limit,” Chestnut said afterwards, having reportedly fasted for 48 hours before the event.
