The legendary presenter began hosting his first show back in 1979.

After 40 years of presenting on the station, Larry Gogan has announced that he will no longer be hosting his show in 2FM as of the end of January.

Fans of the 84-year-old broadcaster need not fear that they’re losing him entirely though, as 2FM have announced via their Twitter account that “Today RTÉ announced 2FM’s Larry Gogan will be leaving the station after 40 years and will now present on RTÉ’s digital station, RTÉ Gold. The best bit is we still get to see lots of him in the office.”

RTE also released an official statement about the Just A Minute Quiz host stepping down:

“Larry Gogan’s lengthy career in broadcasting started in what was then Raidió Éireann in 1961. He joined the station after finishing school and quickly became a household name.

“He was in the original roster of DJs when RTÉ Radio 2 – which became RTÉ 2FM – was launched in 1979, and he’s been presenting shows there ever since.”

Broadcaster Louise McSharry tweeted about the news: “Larry is an absolute gent and being on the same station as him never stopped giving me a thrill. He welcomed me warmly when I was a brand new stand-in and wasn’t sure of my worth, every nice think you might think about him is true.”
