Viewers reacted powerfully to these transgender men sharing their story of loneliness on The Late Late Show

Both the audience in studio and the viewers at home showed massive support for the guests.

In 2015, Irish citizens were given the right to change their legal gender based on self-identification alone, without medical or state intervention, making Ireland a global leader in trans-rights and one of just five countries in the world that has legislation based on self-determination.

On Thursday 17 May, a new documentary series aired on RTE, and My Trans Life gave an intimate portrait of young Irish transgender people on their journey to transition.

On Friday evening, Ryan Tubridy had some guests on from the show, and Nicky Manning, Luke O’Reilly Kane and his mother Maura were nothing but bracingly honest about their situation.

Here is Nicky Manning talking to Ryan Tubridy about the daily struggles he deals with in order to just live his life as who he wishes to be:

While the guests were greeted with warmth and applause for their honesty and bravery by those in the audience, viewers at home were almost practically unanimous with their feelings towards the two men:
