Learn How From Louis…

We at JOE like a good suit, but maybe it's about time we had a go at making our own?

JOE

We at JOE like a good suit, but maybe it’s about time we had a go at making our own?

Let’s be honest, living in Ireland nowadays can get you down. So what can we do?

The lads at Dublin Institute of Technology, with some help from suit maker to the stars Louis Copeland & Sons, are starting Ireland’s first National Tailoring Academy.

The National Tailoring Academy will offer a varied programme of workshops and postgraduate diploma courses in bespoke fashion tailoring, with a goal to bring back a bit of the old school Saville Row skills that you’re not going to find in your 150 quid TopMan suit.

Taught by international Master Tailors and industry professionals, the National Tailoring Academy are offing a one year Continuous Professional Development Diploma in Fashion Tailoring, starting in September. D.I.T. is the awarding body for the full-time diploma course, which includes a study visit to tailoring facilities in Europe.

We caught up with Louis Copeland, the man who’s put suits on everyone from Bono, Mathew McConaughey and Tom Hardy, to Podge and Rodge, Bill Cinton and Stan Laurel! “The ‘Louis Copeland & Son’ name has been synonymous with fine tailored clothing in Ireland for five generations and the company is proud to lend its name and support to the country’s first National Tailoring Academy.

“The academy has fostered strategic partnerships with some of the world’s most renowned names in fashion, such as Kiton, Brioni and Canali. The talented team of Master Tailors and tutors will be teaching in a purpose built tailoring workshop in Dublin city centre, passing on their hand-crafted skills, traditions and experience to the next generation of aspiring tailors.”

If you are sick of buying sh*t clothes, and think you could do a better job, maybe this one’s for you.

Enrolment for the National Tailoring Academy has already begun for graduates and designers working in fashion or tailoring, with only twelve places available . For more info  about the full-time and part-time courses on offer at the National Tailoring Academy at Louis Copeland, check out at www.nationaltailoringacademy.ie.
