First look at Legolas in The Hobbit: There and Back Again

by Genna Patterson

Orlando Bloom has reprised his role in The Hobbit: There and Back Again, the third installment in the trilogy series, despite the character Legolas not featuring in the Tolkien’s original book.

Director Peter Jackson explains why he saw fit to bring back the character; “He’s (elven king) Thranduil’s son, and Thranduil is one of the characters in The Hobbit.” He further added, “And because elves are immortal, it makes sense Legolas would be part of the sequence in the Woodland Realm.”

Legolas is seen in the image with Luke Evans’ character, Bard The Bowman, looking as ageless as a true elf. Considering it’s been 11 years since the first installment of Lord of The Rings was released, that’s a pretty big feat of make up artistry.

The first movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, is released nationwide next week, with the second The Desolation of Smaug due in 2013, while There and Back Again is set for 2014.
