Lindt launch a chocolate hazelnut spread that is basically fancy Nutella

JOE

Controversial opinion: Nutella is amazing.

It is thick, chocolatey, nutty, full of sugar, and absolutely delicious. Okay, it might not be the healthiest of foods, but it is just so good. It is amazing on toast, in crepes, or if you are feeling particularly dirty, just straight eating it out of a jar with a spoon (or your finger).

It is so good, it even causes riots.

You might, therefore, be of the opinion that Nutella cannot be improved. However, that isn’t stopping fancy-pants chocolatiers Lindt having a crack at it.

The Swiss company, probably best known for their iconic chocolate Easter bunnies, have launched a ‘Hazelnut Cream’. Which to us essentially just looks like fancy Nutella. And we can’t wait to try it.

The Lindt website describes it as:

The use of real Lindt chocolate combined with hazelnut enables you to create a delightful dessert or snack with a full and intense flavor. The preparation method that has been fine-tuned by the Lindt MaÎtres Chocolatiers to give rise a perfectly smooth mixture which retains the full chocolate aroma.

That sounds pretty great, right?

The jar says it is made with 40% hazelnuts – Nutella, which is made by Ferrero, is only 13% hazelnuts.

The 210g jars retail for £5.99 online. That is a bit more expensive than Nutella (a 400g jar is about £2.70 at Tesco), but that’s the price you pay for luxury.

The website says “exclusive”, but it has also been spotted in the Lindt store at the Liverpool ONE shopping centre.
