Living abroad and going home to Cork for Christmas? There could be free drinks in it for you

Conor Heneghan

Make your return to the People’s Republic extra special this Christmas.

One of the many good things about the upcoming festive season is meeting up with friends and family living abroad who have come home for Christmas.

Not every Irish person living abroad has the opportunity to make the trip back home, but thousands do and the sight of families greeting returning loved ones at airport arrival gates is one that would warm the coldest of hearts.

In Cork, one pub will provide an extra special welcome for returning emigrants by providing a free cocktail to those prepared to go to a bit of effort before making the trip home.

Electric, a bar on the South Mall on Cork city, are inviting people returning home to Cork for the Christmas to send them a postcard from their destination. When they pay a visit to the bar when they are home, they will be welcomed with a complimentary beverage for themselves and a guest.

A fine idea, not just for people returning home for Christmas, but also for their mates who are eager to leech off them for a free drink.

For more information, check out Electric on Facebook.
