Looks like the horse meat burger incident was all a big ‘accident’

You know what a horse looks like right? What about a cow? Well according to reports today someone somewhere must have gotten the two mixed up.

You know what a horse looks like right? What about a cow? Well according to reports today someone somewhere must have gotten the two mixed up.

When we first heard of the horse meat burger scandal we all thought there was something fishy going on. Now, we’re not purveyors in horse meat or anything, but we suspect that horse meat might be a bit cheaper than beef, so the first reaction was: “it’s a cost cutting scam”. However, according to reports this morning the whole thing was more than likely one big accident.

Speaking on Morning Ireland this morning, the Director of Consumer Protection with the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, Raymond Ellard, said there was no evidence of any dodgy cost cutting measures.

“We know the companies do not buy or handle horse meat. So if this happened, more than likely it’s been accidental.

“But the inquiries are continuing and we will find out eventually.”

The burgers in question were produced at two Irish processing plants, Liffey Meats and Silvercrest Foods, and one plant in the UK, Dalepak Hambleton.
