L’Oréal Style Icons: Ryan Gosling

If there's only one thing we've learned about women in all our time on this planet, it's that they all love Ryan Gosling.

If there’s only one thing we’ve learned about women in all our time on this planet, it’s that they all love Ryan Gosling.

With that in mind, we’ve made him our style icon so that we can try and get a knock on effect of the strange power he holds over all of female-kind.

Gosling’s look is fairly relaxed most of the time, and we’re comfortable enough in admitting that he’s probably in better shape than us. That said, we can still steal some of his top tips to looking good in a pair of jeans and a shirt.

A lot of what Gosling wears is slim fitting, so head for the tailored fit or slim cut gear. If you go a size smaller instead, it will look like it doesn’t fit. Slim fit, on the other hand, is tailored to look slimming, so there won’t be a bunch up of fabric around the waist, which draws the wrong kind of attention.

Gosling’s casual look is also very simple. Accessories are well chosen and minimal, slim fit jeans that fit right both at the waist and the leg and a V-neck or low neck t shirt make for a clean look even if you’re just heading out for a quick drink.

You can add a cardigan and leather jacket to make you look effortlessly cool, and go for a plain cut on the jeans. The less extra buckles, cuts, tears and random things on your denim the better, but try to stick to a slim leg.

Cranberry and mustard colours are in for knitwear at this time of year, and can be found in all men’s fashion shops from those who sell the basics up to high end retailers.

He also wears a lot of grey, because it’s a colour that suits him well, and it’s easy to match with pretty much anything. Bear that in mind yourself, and if you’re not sure what your best colour is, stick to Gosling’s own grey rule; it’s neutral and can be paired with a wide range of complimentary colours. Throw a blazer over the outfit to turn casual into smart casual with very little effort.

Simple accessories will complete the look. A watch that looks classic and understated will always be in style, as will plain brown and black belts with very little ornamentation at the buckle.

Shoes are a part of the outfit that you can put some effort into. Runners are comfortable, but a slick pair of boots under the jeans will always be a good move. A suede desert boot goes with pretty much anything, especially in grey or black. You can also add a leather chukka boot with laces for a slightly smarter look.

Don’t be afraid to go for a suit either when required. If you’re dressed in a good suit, it will make the people around you look like they’re too dressed down, rather than you looking too dressed up. Should you ever have a doubt in your mind about whether or not a suit is appropriate, the answer is always yes.

Don’t forget to keep up on your grooming with the right skincare and haircare products from L’Oréal; you’ve got to look good from head to toe, as the saying goes. Put these tips into practice and it’s pretty much a guarantee that compliments will come flowing your way.
