PICS: Family from Longford need help finding their lost pet falcon

Rory Cashin

The bird was most recently spotted in Dublin.

A family from Longford have asked for help in locating their lost pet falcon.

On Thursday 26 April, the family’s pet falcon “Tirla” went missing.

Ronan Gibney, the dad in the family, has been a keen falconer since childhood and reared the bird from an egg.

A few weeks ago, Ronan was contacted by the wildlife ranger in Dublin with positive sightings in Inchicore followed by another sighting in Rathfarnham, the quays, the IFSC and most recently on Saturday 7 July she was sitting on someone’s garden furniture for a couple of hours on Sussex Rd.

All of these sightings had been from a few days previous, so it was too late by the time the family went looking. More than anything, they’ll really need an up to date sighting in order to have any chance of finding her.

Tirla is said to be very friendly, as she has been raised by Ronan and his three kids since she was born, and Janice, the mom of the family, says that “in fact she thinks she’s human, that’s why she landing near people”.

If you think you’ve spotted Tirla, then take a picture and send it on to [email protected]
