In totally unrelated news, this Friday’s Euromillions jackpot is €153 million…

We all like to think that money wouldn’t change us, but Lottoland Ireland surveyed over 1,000 of their customers, and it turns out that when we get right down to brass tacks, then yes, we’re probably not very nice people.

33% of us believe that a large windfall of money might make us better people (so that leaves two-thirds who don’t, or think the opposite), and while one-in-six of us believe that if our partner were to win the lotto, it would corrupt them and they’d quickly stop being our better halves.

The lowest amount that we’d need to make us feel content is just (“just”) €20 million, but it wouldn’t even take that much for us to go bad: one in 15 Irish men say they would leave their partner if they won just €100,000!

One in 50 say they would abandon the relationship if they won €50,000 or less, while 9% of those who claimed themselves to be in happy relationships said they’d end it all for €1 million.

The higher the amount goes, the more likely they’d be to dump their other half, with 26% likely to break up their relationship if they won the Lotto jackpot.

Guys are more likely to go back to an ex, whereas the ladies are more likely to “upgrade” to someone they deem better of their current beau and more worthy of their expanded bank account.

Similarly, one in 10 would use the money to “improve” their current partner, with the breakdown starting at plastic surgery (41%), improving their wardrobe (33%), giving their other a gym membership (27%) and, last but not least, sending them to counselling to work out any personality kinks (15%).

Lottoland Ireland’s Country Manager Graham Ross said: “It looks like everyone in Ireland has their price and some could be tempted over to the dark side by a EuroMillions win, especially when asked how much would it take to leave their spouse or try to improve them!

“We are very reassured though to see that in this day and age, the majority of Irish people will find a way to somehow stick with their partner and hopefully a mega jackpot like Friday’s €153M would bring some good all round good fortune to them and their families.”
