Lucozade Energy’s ‘Danger Dan’ of the day: Evel Knievel

JOE

He’s quite possibly the most dangerous of all ‘Danger Dans’ to ever live, so it’s only right that the American motorcycle daredevil, Evel Knievel, is JOE’s ‘Danger Dan’ of the day.

Evel Knievel racked up quite a few world records over his career, but the most interesting of them all, and one of the main reasons as to why Evel is our Danger Dan of the Day, is his official Guinness World Record for being survivor of “most bones broken in a lifetime”.

How many broken bones did Evel have to overcome throughout his lifetime? Just the 433…

However, Evel wasn’t known for the amount of broken bones he had to endue or for his fancy ‘Evel Knievel cane’ (below), but instead he was revered for his death-defying stunts that garnered worldwide attention.

Evel Knievel, Motorcycle Daredevil

One of his most famous stunts took place on February 28, 1971, when he set a new world record by jumping 19 cars with his Harley-Davidson XR-750 at the Ontario Motor Speedway in Ontario, California. This particular jump remained a world record for 27-years and it featured the movie Evel Knievel (below).

Even though Evel Knievel was the ultimate ‘Danger Dan’ back in the ‘70s, he was also a bit of a ‘Safety Steve’ as he was a vocal proponent of motorcycle helmet safety. Knievel even offered a hefty cash reward to any of his fans who spotted him performing a stunt without a helmet.

Sadly, Knievel passed away on November 30, 2007, at the age of 69, but his name will forever live and it will always be associated with sheer badassery…
