There’s a touch of The Hangovers about this story.
A South Carolina man woke up to not only a hangover, but a hangover on a deserted island after a heavy night’s celebrations saw him swim across the harbour for no particular reason.
Now we have all woke up in unusual places after a night on the town – all of us, right? – but 35 year-old Stephen Coffee had a few too many last Saturday night and when he woke up Sunday morning he was right to wonder just how he had ended up on Drum Island, a tiny slice of land beneath the Ravenel Bridge in South Carolina.
According to The Post and Courier, Coffee was unable to remember how he got into the water from the bar because he was extremely intoxicated, but did swimming “for a really long time” in the water, with runners on the bridge spotting the man in distress underneath.
Of course it was a stupid thing to do after consuming such an amount of alcohol and he was lucky to escape with only a hangover and a bruised ego.
And they say no man is an island.
