‘Unacceptable baggage handling’ is putting it very mildly.

Manchester Airport have released a statement after footage was released which showed their baggage handlers tossing luggage with no regard for the potential damage that could have been done.

Elizabeth Evans, 28, from Bury, filmed the handlers throwing various suitcases which missed the luggage trolley and fell on the ground – including her own pink case – when she landed at Manchester Airport.

She said the way he treated the bags was “appalling” and that her case had been damaged.

After the clip was widely shared on the Internet, Manchester Airport released the following statement.

“We’re aware of this video and are disappointed to have seen this unacceptable baggage handling. This has been raised with Swissport, the baggage handler in question, directly. Baggage is not handled by Manchester Airport, each airline employs their own baggage handler,” it said.

The BBC have reported that the airport’s handling agent Swissport have also released a statement which said they’re “disappointed by the footage” and that they’ve apologised for the employee’s behaviour.

They add: “We can confirm we are investigating and will take all steps necessary to ensure this does not happen again.”

Here’s the footage.
