A mattress on a floor in Dublin is going for nearly €500 a month

Kate Demolder

Times are tough. Renting in Dublin is tougher.

We don’t need to tell you that we’re currently undergoing a crippling rental crisis in Dublin.

You’ve already heard the horror stories of dodgy landlords and overpriced bedrooms hidden under the stairs – but every so often, there’s a rental ad so baffling that it warrants a second look.

The most recent edition of this is 4A Hagan’s Court, Dublin 2 – a bedroom, of sorts, which boasts a mattress, a couch, a table and proximity to “everything one needs.”

The flat also homes one other person, with whom you’d share a bathroom, complete “with a shower and bathtub.”

To occupy the second mattress-room, the owner is looking for a respectful male or female, but strictly no couples.

The landlord, rather bizarrely, also has an issue with any potential tenant downloading films or music while using the building’s internet.

“My flat has 2 rooms. Bedroom, Living room and of course a Kitchen and Bathroom (with a shower and bathtub),” the advert reads.

“Beautiful wooden floorboards in the hall and main rooms.rent out my flat for the in between time.Within easy reach of everything one needs. Flat has WLAN. No downloads of films / music etc allowed in accordance with the strict Irish laws.

“Must be respectful to the neighbours, so no parties in the flat etc..”

The mattress, while it boasts an impressive location just shy of Baggot Street, is currently up for grabs at €470 per month, before bills. That price will get you the highly sought after featherbed as well as access to your very own (shared) bathroom.

The apartment also boasts a range of amenities, including parking, central heating, cable television, a dryer and washing machine.
