You may be wondering why there are a lot of Big Macs on your social feeds today…

JOE

Whether you’re a fan of McDonald’s food or not, there’s little chance that you’ve managed to make it to this stage in your life without knowing what a Big Mac is.

Introduced in a Pittsburgh in 1967, the burger has become one of (probably the) best-selling burgers at the fast-food chain and an ever-present on their menus.

Michael “Jim” Delligatti, the man who invented the Big Mac, died at his home in Pittsburgh earlier this week. He was 98 years of age.

In recognition of his death, McDonald’s sent out the following tweet, thanking him for his contribution.

Hearing of the news, many chose to honour his passing by posting pictures to social media of his legendary burger. Well how else was America supposed to say thanks, eh?
