We cannot think of a sweeter gift than naming a storm after someone.
Met Éireann, in conjunction with the Met Office of the UK and the Koninklijk Nederlands Meteorologisch Instituut (KNMI), is looking for public participation in naming the next round of storms.
Typically, each letter of the alphabet gets a maximum of one storm. This year, we’ve had Ali, Bronagh, Callum and so on.
Next year, we’re hoping we can mix it up a bit more. Presumably if the Dutch are involved we’re going to have at least one Rutger or Arjen, so we need to represent.
It’s worth noting that we also haven’t had a Storm Teresa yet, which just seems unfair on Teresa Mannion after she put everything on the line to warn us against making unnecessary journeys.
Here’s how you can get involved.
