Much of Ireland is at risk of heavy rainfall and spot flooding this evening and throughout the night, as Met Éireann has issued a status yellow thunder warning for 14 counties.

The warning includes all of Leinster, as well as Cavan and Waterford. Some on social media have already noted lightning strikes in various counties.

The warning came into effect at 11am on Saturday morning and will remain in place until 3am on Sunday, 22 September.

Separately, there is a status yellow marine warning for small crafts in Irish waters. Southeast winds are expected to reach force 6 or higher today on all Irish coasts.
