A mass car pile-up involving more than 130 cars this morning has left dozens injured, including eight seriously injured, in Kent this morning.
Early reports suggested more than 200 people were injured, but the BBC reports that the police have revised this initial figure. The incident that happened at a little after 7am this morning at Sheppey Crossing, Kent and included car transporters.
Some reports said the crash went on for 10 minutes as cars continuously collided with each other, with witnesses suggesting visibility was very poor as drivers were approaching the crossing with no lights.
Firefighters said they had freed five people from their vehicles on the southbound carriageway and Chief Inspector Andy Reeves said the crash was over a “protracted area” with undamaged vehicles between others which had collided, but did suggest that fog played a large part in the incident.
