Don’t try this at home.
Those of you who work or have worked in the construction industry might be familiar with something called the ‘hard hat challenge’.
For the uninitiated, it usually involves someone launching a hard hat into the air using a shovel and manoeuvring their body so the hat lands on their head.
This is how it should be done…

A quick Internet search, however, will reveal that the vast majority of hard hat challenge attempts are unsuccessful and usually all the funnier for it, with only mild injury and embarrassment in store for those who don’t quite pull it off.
You can add the name of Mullingar man Jake Gibney to that particular list after an attempt at the hard hat challenge on Thursday ended in a manner that fans of The Simpsons will be very familiar with.
