New research shows just how much Republic Of Ireland shoppers can save in Northern Ireland

Shoppers in the Republic Of Ireland could make massive savings by doing their Christmas purchases north of the border.

As the strength of the Sterling continues to plummet due to Brexit, the potential for saving money on big purchases by those who travel North to buy their presents continues to grow. Currency exchange services providers looked at some of the prices of some of the goods most likely to be bought in the lead-up to Christmas, and collated the differences in the prices for those who bought them in the high street stores in Dublin, and the same items in Newry. It resulted in customers potentially saving anywhere between 5% and 43% on their purchases.

Simon Phillips, the Retail Director for No1 Currency, said that "Going over the border to buy Christmas presents or do Christmas food shopping has become increasingly popular over the past number of years, and there are significant savings to be made for [Republic Of Ireland] consumers."

"This Christmas, shoppers can take advantage of the steady weakness we have seen in sterling since the announcement of Brexit to make real savings at what can be a very expensive time of the year. Given that it is only an hour’s drive from Swords to Newry, a small investment of time can pay huge dividends to consumers.”
