Leesiders will be up in arms over this.
It’s no secret that the people of Cork are a notoriously proud bunch; hence why you’ll often hear it referred to as ‘The People’s Republic’ or ‘The Real Capital’.
Though tucked away on a small island on the Atlantic in western Europe, a lot of Cork people would assume that the wider world is aware of its existence; not least because of Michael Collins, Roy Keane and the many iconic figures that hail from Leeside.
The New York Times might be one of the biggest newspapers on the planet, but it would appear as if somebody on their staff has never heard of Ireland’s second biggest city; how about this for a corker of a spelling mistake which was acknowledged in the paper recently?
It did not go unnoticed.

Quark???
Surely an innocent mistake, but the author might be better off not showing their face around Cork for the foreseeable future all the same.
The “failing” New York Times indeed.
