Peaky Blinders creator on the lookout for ‘skinheads’ for new drama

Charlie Herbert

The series is a ‘love letter to Birmingham and Coventry.’

The creator of Peaky Blinders is searching for bald people and ‘skinheads’ to appear in his newest show.

Steven Knight’s This Town is an upcoming drama about four young people drawn into the world of ska and two-tone music.

It will star Levi Brown, Jordan Bolger, Ben Rose and Eve Austin in the lead roles, with Downton Abbey‘s Michelle Dockery also set to star alongside Nicholas Pinnock from Marcella and David Dawson of My Policeman fame.

Filming for the six-part drama got underway in Wolverhampton last weekend, but show runners still need people who are naturally bald or have a shaved head to get involved.

Casting agency Mad Dog 2020 Casting has appealed for ‘skinheads’ to get in touch with them to become involved with the show from now until the end of February, Birmingham Live reports.

The casting call says: “Skinheads and people with shaved heads are wanted for an upcoming BBC series, This Town (by the creators of Peaky Blinders. In and around West Bromwich. Must have good availability from now until the end of February.”

The post says that Film Artistes Association (FAA) rates apply with a flat fee of £10 for travel. Anyone interested should email [email protected] using ‘skinheads’ as the subject line.

Knight, who is writer, creator and executive producer of This Town, told the BBC: “This is a project very close to my heart. It’s about an era I lived through and know well and it involves characters who I feel I grew up with.

“It’s a love letter to Birmingham and Coventry but I hope people from all over the world will relate to it.”
