It’s that time of the year again – Dry January – and if you’re wanting an alcohol-free drink that will give you the same ‘buzz’ as the real stuff then look no further.
People are snapping up a non-alcoholic drink that mimics the same euphoric effects of alcohol, but without the hangover.
The drinks range has been created by Professor David Nutt and his team and is the world’s first plant-based drink to have 0% ABV “but still make you tipsy”.
In an interview with the Independent, Nutt said: “It’s a drink that is based on the science of alcohol, particularly the low doses of alcohol that relax you and make you more sociable.”
There are currently three different Sentia spirits to choose from, which are each designed for different occasions: Sentia Red, Sentia Black and Sentia Gold.
Plus its latest release, GABA Gold is designed to bring warmth and wellness to all your social gatherings.
They can be paired with your preferred mixer, or you can try out one of Sentia’s recipes on their website for some inspiration during Dry January, and beyond, with everything from Negroni to espresso martini.
The drinks have also received positive reviews on Amazon, with one fan writing: “I definitely feel very relaxed after one of these and have noticed a similar feeling to how I feel after one small glass of wine.”
Another five-star review said: “I’m slowly giving up alcohol and I have to stay this product hits the spot, lovely warm smokey taste, I can sip this at night slowly and it’s great.”
While another customer wrote that the “taste is down to personal preference”, but added that “with a mixer it was quite enjoyable”.
The Sentia spirits are dubbed as “GABA”, which is formally known as gamma-aminobutyric acid, that’s an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain that produces a calming effect.
Sentia drinks have been created to activate this neurotransmitter in a similar way to your favourite alcoholic tipple. But you won’t get drunk (or hungover) on them.
They’re also available to buy in the UK, Ireland and the US via Amazon, so you can enjoy the ‘buzz’ during Dry January.
