“Are you on the set of the borrowers?”
It’s been an eventful few weeks for the relatively new leader, the email and Garda whistleblower controversy brought the government to the brink, so far that it seemed like it couldn’t survive.
Then the Brexit negotiations, which took centre stage and relegated the controversy to the rear-view mirror as the government’s loud and aggressive negotiation style led to their demands being met and guarantees being given on the Irish border, helped in no small way by the backing of the EU.
Since Enda Kenny stepped down as leader of Fine Gael, there’s been a noticeable increase in the social media presence of the new Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
One of the strategies is for Varadkar to upload a weekly video message discussing what has occurred over the past seven days.
His most recent video has gathered some attention online, mostly by people making similar jokes about it.
That’s because he’s either sitting in a massive chair with an equally gigantic lamp and table, which people were quick to point out, doesn’t exactly help with the whole “Irish are leprechauns” image.

That massive lamp makes you look tiny. You need a tiny lamp to make you look massive for Brexit negotiations
