Brave six-year old reading the Irish Farmers’ Journal after double transplant is one of the photos of 2016

This is just fantastic.

A picture made its way to Irish Farmers’ Journal this week of a six-year old girl from Waterford named Lexi, who is currently recovering from a kidney and liver transplant she had in Birmingham.

The photo, which was sent into The Dealer of Irish Farmers’ Journal by Lexi’s aunt Carmel, shows Lexi recovering with the three things she had requested after the operation; a packet of Hula Hoops, a bottle of Lucozade and her favourite paper.

Writing to The Dealer, Carmel said: “My niece has just had a double transplant in Birmingham and her request after her operation was to have Lucozade, Hula Hoops and a copy of the Irish Farmers Journal.

“We, of course, granted her this wish. We would love to share this picture with you to let all your team know the great job they are doing and how this paper means something different to all generations and brings joy and conversation to the young and not so young in our family and I’m sure many more like us. We thank you most sincerely for this.”

Having had her operation two weeks’ ago, Lexi’s recovery is well underway and she is expected back on the farm in Waterford in no time.

“Her father said ‘don’t let her see the price of cattle or she’ll never get better!’ But she’s doing well and everything is looking great,” Carmel added.

Cheers to Aisling Hussey of Irish Farmers Journal for sending this our way.
