If you head into O’Sullivan’s Bar in West Village, Douglas, for a quick scoop this afternoon, you’ll be able to catch up on all of the day’s news thanks to three new iPads installed at the bar.

It might seem like an early April Fool’s Day joke to some, but the three iPads featured in the pic above are actually available for punters to use at the bar in O’Sullivan’s Bar in West Village, Douglas, Co. Cork. So while you’re enjoying a pint, you can catch up on the news or Skype your mates in Australia – if they’re awake.

JOE recently got in touch with Donal O’Sullivan of O’Sullivan’s Bar to find out a bit more about the pub’s latest technological advancement. First and foremost we asked if there were any particular sites banned from use in the pub to which Donal told us: “Yes. You won’t be able to access porn sites or anything that might take your undivided attention away”.

We can only assume that means Miranda Kerr’s GQ cover is a no-go too?

As for the inevitable pub selfies that will be taken with the iPad, Donal informed us that the camera function has been turned off for the foreseeable future but, all going well, and if patrons behave themselves, the function may be turned back on.

Finally, we were a tad concerned for the well-being of the iPads during rush hour, but Donal informed us that the devices will be safely locked away during the peak times. So from around 7pm on Friday evening until early Monday morning the iPads won’t be available for use… for obvious reasons. They’re also protected from spills and secured to the bar.

Donal said that the iPads are basically taking the place of traditional newspapers anyway, so anyone who nips in for a quick mid-week pint might prefer to surf the web than trawl through a broadsheet, which is something we’d have to agree with.

So here’s hoping the new feature does what O’Sullivan’s Bar wants it to do and you can probably expect to see more iPads being rolled out in various pubs across the country. Just remember, you saw it in O’Sullivan’s Bar first.
