PIC: “I danced with a girl who looked like Satan” – this 2001 postcard sent from the Gaeltacht is priceless

Do you miss the Gaeltacht?

Carl Kinsella

He didn’t enjoy his time there.

An anonymous postcard addressed to Ms G. Roche of Dublin 3 has appeared online today, and its contents paint a hilariously unforgiving picture of life at the Gaeltacht.

The Gaeltacht is a rite of passage for many growing up in Ireland, and it’s safe to say more people enjoy it than not – but this lad seemed to have a pretty harrowing time.

Love this postcard that Ger Roche received from her youngest son who was spending a summer in the Gaeltacht in Connemara when he was about 13 (he is now 29). Ger has always kept it because it was so funny!

The postcard was set in to The Ryan Tubridy show earlier on this week.

“Your angry son who you through [sic] away to a bog” would be the highlight if it weren’t for the gym right beforehand: “The céilí are a load of rubbish, a complete waste of time. Danced with a girl who looked like Satan.”
