Pic: The latest claimed sighting of the Loch Ness Monster

It looks as though we have our latest ‘sighting’ of the Loch Ness Monster. The cynics, like us, may be of the opinion it is merely a wave, but one man is convinced he has photographed good old Nessie.

While others suggest camera trickery or driftwood as other possible reasons for the image, David Elder is convinced that his photo is that of Scotland’s most famous monster.

“I’m convinced (the wave) was caused by a solid black object under the water. The water was still at the time. Water was going over something solid to make the wave .There was nobody on the loch at the time,” he told The Scotsman.

Local tourism chief Willie Cameron revealed that David isn’t the only believer either.

“I know four people who have seen a creature, but wouldn’t speak about it publicly for fear of ridicule,” he said.

Ever since the famous picture taken in 1934 of an object in the water by The Mail – a picture which has since been proven to be a fake – thousands flock every year for a glimpse of the elusive figure, though countless images have claimed also to have spotted Nessie.

Last year a sailor who spent 26 years searching for the Loch Ness Monster took what he believes is the best ever picture taken of the elusive beast.

Gary Campbell, president of the Loch Ness Monster Fan Club in Inverness, is naturally convinced that the huge creature lurks under the surface.

“Most of the sightings involve foreign objects coming out of the water. At the end of the day, there are still sightings that are inexplicable. There’s something physical in there,” he added, without confirming if he was smoking the reefer at the time.

We’ll hold court ourselves until we see a) more proof or b) improved photoshopping skills.
