Hay no attention to this car people…

Much like red lemonade, tea and radio death notices, there is something quintessentially Irish about our fixation with bales of hay.

We’re all familiar with hay’s practical purpose of feeding livestock – we hope you all know this unless you’re afraid to travel away from the city for some bizarre reason – or its occasional use for insulation purposes, but us Irish have also managed to turn dried grass into works of art.

Our interest was definitely peaked by JOE reader Stacey Donohoe who spotted this car absolutely brimming with hay this morning.

We have narrowed it down to two reasons; either there’s a crowd of hungry weanlings (that’s young cattle for all you city slickers out there) to feed, or they are setting up one hell of a nativity set…

Stacey was driving near the Drung area of Cavan, between Cavan and Cootehill, this morning and spotted this car ahead of her in traffic.

We’re no stranger to piling a few bales of hay into the back a car but by jaysus this lad is as rough as they come…

Cavan Hay

Bizarrely this isn’t the first time that Cavan has popped up on our radar with regards to hay transportation.

Cavan, the hay capital of the world…
