PICS: The animals at Dublin Zoo really enjoyed their day in the snow

Alan Loughnane

Even some of the animals who wouldn’t be used to the snow…

Dublin Zoo was closed on Wednesday due to the snow, but just because it’s closed, it doesn’t mean the animals couldn’t enjoy the relatively rare bit of snow we get in this country.

But don’t worry, there was no chance that they’d get in anyway cold despite the freezing temperatures, as at all times, the animals had continuous access to their heated houses, as per Dublin Zoo’s cold weather contingency plan.

In some cases, Dublin Zoo has installed additional heaters to ensure animals that are used to warmer climates, giraffes and zebras and other such animals were protected during the cold weather. Other animals used to a chillier climate have the option of choosing the colder outside elements if they wish.

Some of the animals including the Asian elephants, African painted dogs, southern white rhinos, white-crowned mangabeys, zebras and Eastern bongos really enjoyed their time in the snow.
