To celebrate 50 years of the iconic Ford Mustang, the company launched the latest model of the car from one of the most famous, and difficult to reach, places in the world.

Back in 1965, Ford revealed a prototype of their now famed Mustang at the top of the Empire State Building in New York. Originally unveiled at the 1964 World’s Fair, the engineers took apart the car, brought it up to the 86th floor and rebuilt it, ensuring the new car got maximum exposure.

Today, 50 years after the original stunt, Ford pulled it again. Once again, the car had to be dismantled and reassembled at the summit. With the deck only closed to the public for six hours between 2am and 8am, the team had a very short time to put the five main pieces together for the launch. They even practiced the assembly routine at the factory before shipping the crates to New York.

The car will stay on the cramped observation deck for the next two days, when the whole process will have to be reversed.

Still, it was worth it for these pictures, especially the beautiful main shot of the completed car towering over New York in the main picture above.
