You don’t see this every day.
Now, we say that you don’t see this every day, but just a month ago, we saw a snake on the loose in Tipperary.
‘Albert’ was rescued by the ISPCA having escaped from its previous owner.
And you’d think that would be a fairly rare occurrence in Ireland.
But we now have another instance of a snake at large, this time in a park in Leitrim, as was reported by the Leitrim Observer on Monday.
And it is bloody huge.
A man came across the snake while walking near Kinlough Park in Leitrim on Sunday.
Look at the size of the yoke.
Someone call Saint Patrick because he must have forgot to get rid of what looks like the biggest snake of all.
People have been warned not to approach the snake. Although pythons are not poisonous, they still have quite a dangerous bite.
Speaking after the incident in Tiperrary last month, ISPCA Chief Inspector Conor Dowling said: “The ISPCA would like to see stricter controls over the sale and keeping of exotic species including a ‘positive list’ of species which are permitted to be bred, sold and kept as pets based on their welfare needs and whether they pose a risk to human health or the environment if they escape or are deliberately released.”
