Pics: One of the world’s most expensive cars sells for $27.5 million at auction

One owner, low mileage, excellent condition. Sounds like a great buy, but there’s a $27.5 million catch to this vintage Ferrari.

A 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 S NART Spider has just set a new world record for the most expensive vintage Ferrari ever sold at a public auction after going under the hammer for a whopping €20.5 million. To put that in perspective, you could buy 550 top of the range Golf GTi’s for that kind of money.

In fairness to the 275 GTB that was recently sold at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, it was purchased brand new by a Mr Eddie Smith Sr., from North Carolina, back in 1968 from the original Ferrari importer to the US, Luigi Chinetti.

It’s also only one of 10 ever built, so the car’s new owner won’t have to worry about parking next to another one when he goes out for the paper and milk in the morning.
