You have to hand it to them, this was well done…

Paddy Power are a bunch of tricksters as they’ve proved on numberous occasions down through the years but this latest stunt may be the biggest one they’ve pulled off to date.

The bookmaker posted a picture (above) which shows them using part of the Amazon as a marketing tool ahead of the World Cup in Brazil. It worked to be fair, the picture went all over the globe and was reported in numerous news outlets worldwide. The reaction, as you’d expect, was extremely negative. Surely they couldn’t stoop this low, could they? Thankfully, no.

Paddy Power came clean today and admitted it was just clever editing, and they also gave the reason for the stunt: “Greenpeace told us that in the Amazon an area the size of 122 football pitches is chopped down every 90 minutes, which is shocking. Paddy Power’s #Shavetherainforest stunt helps to haul this issue into the public light, with our own little mischievous twist”.

“Mischievous twist” is a bit of an understatement lads and here’s a look at some of the technology they used to make it work…

It’s an incredibly realistic job and it kind of scares us as who knows what they’ll do next… The pictures are from the Paddy Power Blog and hopefully the stunt does help with the Greenpeace campaign. That got us good, fair play lads.
