A great start to a fascinating documentary.
The first episode of 1916 aired last night on RTÉ One and proved to be a really interesting watch.
Part one of the three-episode series focused on the build-up to the Easter Rising and the impact that these events had abroad, especially in the heavily Irish-populated New York.
With contributions from notable Irish and American historians and narration provided by Liam Neeson, the documentary went down extremely well with viewers.

Naturally, there were also comparisons made to the controversial series, Rebellion.
Hard to believe the same @rte that brought us tonight’s masterful #1916 documentary are the same ones who inflicted #Rebellion on us!
