PICS: Woman thinks she’s been praying to Saint Anthony every day; it’s actually a Lord of the Rings figurine

The resemblance is, well, see for yourself…

Saint Anthony, the patron saint of lost things, is something of a revered figure in Ireland and various items bearing his appearance would be a common sight in households across the country.

St. Anthony is also a popular figure in Brazil, a country with one of the largest Catholic communities in the world, and a rather amusing case of mistaken identity involving the famous saint has gone viral there in recent days.

Gabriela Brandão posted images on her Facebook page last week detailing her daughter’s great-grandmother’s habit of praying to a mini-statue of Saint Anthony every day.

Except that’s not Saint Anthony, but Elrond Half-Eleven, the Lord of Rivendell from The Lord of the Rings, played by Hugo Weaving.

Gabriela’s Facebook post has been shared over 3,500 times since it was posted last Friday and has been reported on by news outlets in Brazil.

Call us scpetical, but we can’t quite see the resemblance. What do you think?
