In case you’re wondering, he was applying for a job with a drinks company. Scandalously, he didn’t get it.

As many of you probably know only too well, it has been tough to find a job in Ireland in the last number of years and job candidates have to, *cringe* ‘think outside the box’ when trying to make an impression on their potential employers.

One way of doing so is to make your CV stand out from the rest and we don’t mean by embellishing it with a list of achievements so obviously fake that it would instantly be thrown in the bin without so much as a second thought.

When applying for a job with an unnamed drinks company recently, JOE reader Brian O’Sullivan came up with an innovative way of ensuring that they would take notice of his CV by printing it across the labels of six bottles of beer, with the headings at the front of the bottle – education, skills, experience etc. – and the details relevant to each individual heading at the back.

When talking to JOE earlier this evening, Brian told us that the company he applied to were incredibly impressed with his creative approach but didn’t feel he was experienced enough for the role he had desired; a shame really but at least they were honest and up front about it.

That said, if Brian’s approach made as much an impression as it did on them and on us and you think he might prove useful around your own work environment, feel free to contact us through the usual channels to get in touch.

It could be just to say hello and have a beer; as you can see above, his own bottles could do with topping up.
