Poll result: The most popular supermarket in Ireland amongst JOE readers is…

We have a winner

Conor Heneghan

We’ll give you a hint, it’s four letters long and it’s not Lidl.

Ordinarily, we wouldn’t have thought that the supermarkets where we shop for our groceries would be a major talking point amongst Irish people, but that was before the news broke about SuperValu’s position on top of the pile earlier today.

Following on from that revelation, we decided to find out the most popular supermarket amongst our beloved readers in an effort to discover where they go when they need to fill their shopping baskets with a little more than a loaf of bread and a tin of beans.

The response was overwhelming, with well over 3,000 readers casting their votes in a matter of hours, with one supermarket finishing not quite head and shoulders above the rest, but winning out quite emphatically in the end.

That supermarket was Aldi, with just over 26% of JOE readers favouring that as their supermarket of choice, ahead of Tesco (21.8%), SuperValu (21.7%), Lidl (16.3%) and Dunnes Stores (13.9%).

Here are the results in black and er, blue. The people have spoken.
