Research shows just how much hotel prices in Dublin have risen for St. Patrick’s Day

Some very interesting figures here

Some interesting figures here.

It’s getting close to that time of year when all of us Irish people are encouraged to be on our best behaviour as we prepare our finest céad míle fáilte’s to all the tourists visiting our beautiful land for St. Patrick’s Day.

The golden rule of economics always applies around this time of year, supply and demand, when it comes to accommodation although these figures released by hotel comparison website trivago.ie on the cost of hotels in Dublin during this period is very interesting.

One night on 16th March, the day before St Patrick’s Day, the average cost of a room is €182 in the capital, compared to just €98 the following Monday.

Similarly, one night on 17th March will cost an average of €178, which is a 76% increase from the following Tuesday (€101).

We wager that any visiting tourists might be asking their Irish friends to let them sleep on their couch over the Paddy’s Day period. We would probably still charge them though.

It seems that hotel prices will remain high in Dublin during the entire St Patrick’s Day period (Saturday 14th – Tuesday 17th March), an overnight stay will cost an average of €171, which is a 37% increase from the monthly average of €125.

These increases are pretty much in line with the same figures form last year which recorded an 86% rise in comparison to the monthly average.

Limerick is the only other Irish city with raised hotel prices over the St’ Patrick’s Day period. A hotel will cost an average of €88 between 14th and 17th March, which is a moderate 14% increase from the monthly average of €77.

Moral of the story, if you live in Dublin and Limerick and you’re planning on locking yourself out of your home with no phone also then don’t do it over the Paddy’s Day period
