REVEALED: The top 10 staycation experiences in Ireland

Sarah McKenna Barry

Some great day-trips made the list.

Understandably, the last year has been the year of the staycation. With international travel off the cards, many of us, when permitted to do so, have been indulging in inter-county travel instead.

To help us decide where to head to next, TripAdvisor has put together its top 10 staycations in Ireland for its Travellers’ Choice 2021 awards.

The website used reviews to select the very best experiences available in Ireland. Some familiar ones made the top 10, as well as some arguably lesser-known trips and activities.

Check the list in full below.

1. Guided Walking Tour in Kilkenny

Top of the list is a guided walking tour of Kilkenny by Shenanigans. The tour, which is an hour and a half long, features magicians and entertainers to bring the Medieval Mile to life.

2. Howth Peninsula Hiking Tour

Next up is the hiking tour of Howth Peninsula in North County Dublin. Expect beautiful views and a fun tour guide on this four-hour trip.

3. Exhilarating Rib Experience – Dingle Sea Safari

If you fancy a close-up look of the wildlife of the Blasket Islands in Co. Kerry, book yourself in for a thrilling ride aboard the Dingle Sea Safari. But be warned – waterproof clothing is essential if you fancy staying dry.

4. Titanic Belfast Visitor Experience and Giant’s Causeway Day Trip from Dublin

It’s unsurprising that this two-in-one tour made the list when you consider the stellar reputation of both the Titanic Museum and the Giant’s Causeway. Definitely a must-see if you fancy a day-trip up North.

This three-hour long experience promises stunning vistas of Dublin, as well as a close-up look of the seals that swim in its bay. A perfect way to spend the afternoon.

6. Game of Thrones Tour

This tour allows you to immerse yourself in the key Northern Ireland filming locations for the hugely popular fantasy series. A must for any fan of the show.

7. Self-Guided Cycling Tour at Killarney National Park including Muckross House

Killarney National Park is truly breathtaking, and so is Muckross House and Gardens. This trip, which allows you to explore both at your own pace, should be on your agenda if you’re in Kerry.

8. Irish Rock ‘N’ Roll Museum Experience Dublin

Nestled in Temple Bar, this tour gives you exclusive access to memorabilia from U2, Thin Lizzy and many more. On top of that, you’ll also learn the history of the legendary Irish musicians who recorded in their studios.

9. Cliffs of Moher Tour including Wild Atlantic Way and Galway City from Dublin

The Cliffs of Moher in County Clare are hugely popular with Irish people as well as international tourists. Pictures of these stunning cliffs simply do not do them justice – they have to be seen to be believed.

One for the foodies. Indulge in Dublin’s hidden culinary delights while learning about the city’s food history.
